Early into yoga I noticed my back didn’t want to flex. My hips always compensate for my back range so I’m able to do some challenging poses, but when I focus on my technique to ensure it’s coming from my back it becomes much more challenging.
I had to have a few arguments to make sure I didn’t push myself too hard. Everyone has weaknesses and everyone has strengths. What I love about yoga is it is about connecting with your body and ensuring you enjoy your practice. So I believe all efforts should be put towards doing what you enjoy, what makes you feel good! But, also you should challenge yourself as long as you enjoy your practice and you are putting the time in to be healthy and the time to reflect is so important. Taking the time to work on your strengths and weaknesses helps wellbeing and allows you to be mindful during!
Yoga should never be painful so if you are like me and your back doesn’t like to flex (plow pose is so challenging for me) embrace it! Don’t do it so you can’t breathe or talk, put some blocks under your feet to help yourself out.
Your body is the way it is for a reason, love it and work with it, not against it.
